The flat horizontal planes of the Cape are modified by the sky and surrounding water. These fluctuating expanses of color are found in marshes, beaches and bogs. The tops of the marshes are flattened by the vast sky while the shapes of the marshes are pulled and altered by the tidal waters. Colors within these planes change as they recede into the distance; as they move horizontally from the sun; and as layered in the growth of plants. The observation and expression of these color changes has led to this year's exhibition.           JL 2002
